Owner Operator FAQ
What are the requirements for Owner Operators?
- Must meet all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (driver and equipment).
- Truck must not be older than 10 years.
- Trucks and trailers that pass a Level One DOT inspection through an approved H5 Transport inspection facility may be leased on. Tractor must also be capable of functioning with an Electronic Logging Device (ELD).
- Must have a valid commercial driver’s license with proper endorsements. No current suspension or revocation. A work permit is not acceptable.
- No Major traffic violations in the last three years. This includes:
- Reckless/careless driving
- Driving while intoxicated or under the influence of illegal drugs within the last 5 years
- Hit and run, leaving the scene of an accident or failure to report an accident
- Excessive speeding; defined by DOT as any single offense of 15 or more MPH over posted
- Any rear end collision.
- No preventable accidents involving fatality, bodily injuries treated away from the scene, or disabling damage to a motor vehicle in the past three years.
- Cannot have more than 4 moving violations within the last 3 years or no more than 2 moving violations within the last 12 months.
- Must have two years of verifiable over the road experience in operation of a tractor-trailer.
- Must be at least 23 years old.
Bonus Program
Bonus’s are paid for:
- Clean DOT Roadside inspections.
- $2,000 Owner Operator Referral Program – Paid out over 90 days.
Where is H5 Transport’s terminal?
Our trailer terminal is located in Oakes, ND 58474.
What lanes does H5 service?
We are regionally based in the Midwest, but run throughout the US.
Are you live load or drop/hook?
The majority of our freight is live load/unload. 99% no touch freight.
What is the pay schedule?
We pay 85% and that includes your trailer. We text Settlement Reports every Monday, with deposits ACH on every Friday.
Can I use my own MC?
We prefer you use our MC, however you can use yours. We have a contract for that.
How much can I gross per month?
Average owner‑operator monthly gross of $16k–24k before fuel—excellent earning potential.
How soon can I get started?
We can get you started nearly immediately as we have freight ready to go.
What type of freight do I haul?
H5 has contracts with 3M Company, Bayer Crop Services, Whirlpool, and many others. In addition, we work with dozens of companies to keep our trucks rolling.
What other benefits does H5 provide?

Is it forced dispatch?
Absolutely not. We work hand-in-hand with you to meet your business goals and stay as busy as you want.
